The Eclipse

On April 8, 2024, comes a BIG event! So big is the event that the state of Indiana has declared an emergency so the governor can use the state’s National Guard.

What be the event? A total solar eclipse of the sun! And such is moving thousands of people to sit under the shadow of the moon (you likely know some) creating much concern for authorities.

A large number of us remember the last one which occurred on August 21, 2017, as it happened in totality over Nebraska from the NW to SE of the state. It was something very spectacular! Now another great happening in the sky. Imagine you lived before science had figured out in advance what was to happen and when? What would you have thought or feared?

I have had a number of people ask me my take on this event and I have had a number of videos sent declaring this to be a great sign from God. It is interesting the number of Salem’s impacted by the eclipse nearly 7 years ago and the number of Nineveh’s under this shadow. Also interesting is the “X” made by these two events. Much is interesting about this eclipse, but I find no reason to sell my house, sit on a hill, hide in a cave or believe it is a sign of the end.

I do find it a great statement from God that we live in a created world that He controls.

The Son is the image of the invisible God…all things have been created through him and for him. He is before all things, and in him all things hold together, Colossians 1:15-17.

There have been times when God has used the sun as a sign or a judgment.  Remember the ninth plague? Moses stretched out his hand toward heaven, and there was thick darkness in all the land of Egypt three days. They did not see one another; nor did anyone rise from his place for three days. But all the children of Israel had light in their dwellings, Exodus 10:22.

Remember the long day of Joshua? So the sun stood still in the midst of paradise, and did not hasten to go down for about a whole day, Joshua 10:13.

Remember the three hours on the cross when God turned out the light? Now from the sixth hour until the ninth hour there was darkness over all the land, Matthew 27:45.

God is sovereign over His creation and if He wants to stop the earth’s spin or stop the light He can! But this is not one of those events which were outside the pale of science – no prediction of or declared duration of. Those were signs and miracles. This is not!

The eclipse on April 8 is God AGAIN declaring that the universe and the globe of our habitation are “fearfully and wonderfully” made!

That a body 93 million miles from the other can have the same size in the sky from earth and travel so they align to cover the other is a statement! Furthermore, that science can predict the path of the eclipse and the time when it will be at max at any place on the globe is a statement!

The heavenly bodies in their doings (the north star) and their movements scream – “GOD!”  The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of his hands, Psalm 19:1.

It boggles my mind that those who believe the world came from a “boom and a bang” can persist in their folly. The universe has design and there is control over it. There is a God!!!

So, my response to this event on April 8?  When I consider Your heavens, the work of Your fingers, the moon and the stars, which You have ordained, what is man that You are mindful of him, and the son of man that You visit him? Psalm 8:3-4.
