As we have all experienced over the past year-and-a-half, there have been changes and there are changes in the wind – most are not pleasing and many not boding well for the future.
The virus caused a shutdown forcing us apart and to wear face coverings, expectations to be vaccinated with an unproven “anti-virus” drug, and the threat of travel and shopping restrictions/passports if one is not vaccinated. For the first time ever, there are tangible ideas about how the mark of the beast referred to in Revelation 13 might be made and used.
In addition to the virus, we have suffered through a very volatile political season ending with a strange election (how Biden came to the top in SC) and how the numbers voting were not just some more but many, many millions more and that all topped with the “Capitol riot.” And that whole mess isn’t cleared up yet. The “people’s house”, the Capitol, is just now beginning to reopen, but not fully, and Trump continues to be a flash point on both sides.
And then there was the George Floyd evil, great rioting, and the 1619 project. All three continue to haunt and impact. The greatest impact is seen in the WOKE movement which includes the Critical Race Theory that has turned our focus on national wrongs and weaknesses and caused a denigration of the good and pluses of the country. This new thinking is serving to divide us and to destroy “one nation under God.”
It is now said that the racism problem lies at the feet of white males and if you believe that 2 + 2 = 4, you are following white males in your thinking and are also racist. Is this not some level of insanity? We all have a sense that the cracks are widening and deepening almost daily.
A part of the “shock and awe” of WOKE is what has been uncovered as happening in many classrooms. The pandemic kept many children home for safety and in doing so revealed what is being taught. There are firestorms all over the country between teachers, teacher unions, school boards and parents. I had two parents come in during the last week talking about what school their children are in or facing and both were very troubled. One works in an elementary school as a para and said that the school is “dark” and very troubling. But little “Susie” thinks it is just fine for she has nothing to compare it to nor the Biblical savvy to understand why a parent would call it dark. Children are being discipled every day in that atmosphere and disciples turn out like those who disciple them. Another parent noted that their school board was up against a strong “woke” element of teachers and they were in a fight over it. A teacher told me a few weeks back that the new teachers in their school are all “woke”.
The forced homeschooling in the past year also showed parents they could do it. That experience significantly bumped up the number of children who are homeschooled. I recently read that the number is about 11% which means 1 in every 10 are now homeschooled. I talked with a teacher in a Christian school in another state and in a very liberal community and he noted a great influx of students from non-believing homes as they, liberals, flee the agendas in their state schools.
Then there is the insane confusion over gender. Why is there any confusion here? Simply “follow the science”. Romans 1 reports that as a society turns from God, that God steps back which at first allows sexual promiscuity (no fault divorce, living together, abortion) then homosexuality and finally it is leads to sexual insanity (76 gender identities and counting, gender assignment at birth is changeable, etc.). And take note of where we are in this slide!
It is not just gender confusion – it is confusion over life and purpose. There are children in schools who identify as “furries” or cats and wear ears and attempt to communicate as cats. In such confusion is it any wonder that drug use – either prescribed or illegal – is way up and that suicides are increasing?
This USA is not that of 50 years ago or even 10 years ago! Lord, help us!
