I made a nearly fatal mistake by saying “Yes” to Janet at the end of May when she asked me if I would go on a diet with her. I should have asked a BUNCH of questions! Meat and veggies (I’ve never eaten so much green food!) and no potatoes, pop, pizza, bread, chips, beans, ICE CREAM or cookies. Ugh!!
On June 27th I had liver and onions for supper – which I like, but I told her I’m not sure that liver without a potato is acceptable. She said she had a mashed potato dish to go along with the liver. The meal was great! After the meal she told me that the “potatoes” (I did this in memory of Dan Quayle) were actually pureed cauliflower. But it was a good meal.
One of the great escapes I have in this ordeal is my liverwurst which is approved in the plan. Man, what a lifesaver! Tonight I had finely chopped cauliflower and a hard boiled egg. Yeah! What a meal!
Now all that would be much more tolerable if I was peeling off the pounds – I’m not. Only a few in five weeks, but a few is so much better than none.
Over the 4th I developed a bad tooth. On Friday it was very, very sensitive to hot and cold so eating was a challenge. On the 4th I couldn’t chew – just tapping the tooth was wild. Monday morning I called my dentist for an appointment and they got me in this morning. The dentist found it was a root problem under a crown. The endodontics dentist scheduled me for Monday, then they called back and got me in this afternoon.
I told the office people that I hate the fact that I know where they are without needing directions (a little off the beaten path) which means I’ve been there before. Then I quickly followed up that statement with the fact that I am very glad they are there when needed.
I wanted to call the doctor, “Dr. Needle” – five big long ones! But hey, better a bunch of needles than the pain of a drill!
I had a root canal which the Dr. said was one of the worst – I had five roots and two had a connecting bridge. It took awhile. While he had my mouth propped open and was grinding and digging away with the hygienist sucking out pieces and fluids, I fell asleep. Really! I had heard of such things happening but honestly found such stories a little hard to believe. Well, it happened to me.
Sitting in the chair both this morning and this afternoon were special times of pondering and prayer. Who would have thought that the dentist chair could be such a good place!
Janet, Jettie and I were with my father in North Platte on the 4th and 5th and found the 92 year-old doing well. He is such a blessing!
Janet and I were in two cemeteries over the weekend. We did some pruning of peonies at the grave of Janet’s folks in Waterville, KS. There is a Buttermore grave in that same cemetery and the peonies were starting to block the name so I did some pruning so the name could be easily seen! Taking care of family.
In case you weren’t out today – it was HOT!
