Janet and World Order

Thank you for your many expressions of love to Janet as she crossed off another year of life and launched into the next.  I have read through the many cards and listened to her tell of this and that which you did and said that blessed her (and now me).  She is very, very loved and for that I am very, very thankful – Thanks!

I never cease to be blessed by the variety of soda cups or coffee cups sitting on the counter leftover from a time with one of you.  It seems she is sitting with one of you almost daily. It also seems that I spend an exorbitant time beating back her social agenda – I mean, I think that if she had her way we’d have folk over almost every night or be on the town often every week.  I can’t tell you how many times I say, “No – I don’t want to go nor entertain, I just want to kick my feet up and…MUSE!”

Janet has had a long, long record of engagement with people – all the way back to her high school days.  She has four high school friends that she is often in contact with (and another few she is occasionally in touch with) and she sat with two of them just in the last half month.  She learned that one of the four is in deep mourning over the election results – a delightful girl who recently lost her mother and her husband – and is now very down.  Her reaction has given me pause and fodder for ponderings.  Why be so “blue”??

If the election had been a sweep the other way, what would have been my reaction?  I think I’d be troubled, disappointed and maybe even sad, but I don’t think I’d be depressed for I am of a mindset that God is yet ruling, allowing and using even pagans as He did the Pharaoh, Nebuchadnezzar, Caesar Augustus and Pilate.  I would have resigned myself to God’s punishment for America’s many offenses toward Him as a justified result.  I would have still faced the coming days with hope and help knowing that God has promised not to leave me and He will even give His people a greater impact as lights in an ever-darkening country.

This election was a clash of worldviews.  One view notes that there is a God – maybe not sovereign over all nor One angry with sin and approachable only through a contrite and confessional faith – yet there is God.  The other group seems given to pushing God into the shadows if not even embracing the truth that was declared on the cover of Time Magazine in April of 1966: “God is Dead!”  One seems to believe that nations are a God construct and to be accepted while the other is heavily bent toward a one-world order.  The later has embraced the vision of John Lennon expressed in his song, “Imagine.”  Said therein: Imagine no heaven, no hell, no countries and thus no war, no religion, no possessions, no greed and no hunger. Imagine a world where there is a great brotherhood of men – all living in peace, all sharing and all being one.  Imagine!

What a wonderful thought, except it is unachievable because people – all people – are naturally greedy, grabby, selfish-not sharing (ever watch little ones in a nursery?), religious [the money god (betting and gambling), football god or power god], angry and retaliatory, and fearful.  Man is a mess and unable to live out the utopia Lennon envisioned or that which the globalists desire.  What always happens in utopian experiments is a deep poverty comes over most adherents and great power and wealth to a few.  It has been shown so over and over.  Again, because we are not students of history, we are bound to repeat history.

Back to the depression amongst some of us over the election results:  I pray that we don’t belittle or mock them.  Their hopes and vision have just been shattered.  You see what a divorce or a firing does to people.  To have your worst fears become a reality is heart-rending.  I mean, if the country has just elected a Hitler, a fascist and a monster – YIKES!  However, despite a large swath of the news media screaming that the “sky is falling”, I think that #45 left a picture of how #47 will deal.  I don’t think this election fulfills the 1965 protest song by Barry McGuire that we are “on the eve of destruction.”

Circling back to Janet.  She lives in her little world of a brotherhood (sisterhood) marked by peace, giving, religion, no war and love of God – all the things Lennon and the left would like to experience.  She found it all in Jesus – the life the truth and the way!  John 14:6

John W Peterson captured the hope and help for all men in “A Flag to Follow” (Singspiration, 1959):

   I sought a ringing answer for all my doubts inside,
A torch of truth uplifted, my searching steps to guide;
I sought a word of wisdom, a true authority,
I sought to know life’s purpose, to solve its mystery.

            I found them all in Jesus, the Life, the Truth, the Way;
Beneath his flag I’ll take my stand and follow Him today. I’ll follow Him today!

YOU??
