The Election

So, 72.6 million people just voted for a felon – WOW!  (4.6 more than opposed).

72.6 million people just voted for a “dictator”, “facist” and “Hitler.”  What?

The campaign was ugly – on both sides!  I’m so glad that the rhetoric is mostly subsided and that my mailbox can breathe again.

Often heard was that Trump was “a threat to our democracy!”  Reminder!  We are a Republic!  Trump, just like Biden, and others before still have to face the courts and the populace – it is not Nazi Germany of the 30’s.  (I pray it never gets there!)

Often was heard that Project 2025 is going to destroy the country.  Project 2025 was the construct of about 100 conservative think tanks and entities brainstorming on ideas about how to fix so many problems facing the country.  There were many suggestions on how to shrink the bureaucracy, especially on the federal level.  That was probably what inflamed the establishment.

Side note:  Shortly after lunch on 11/08 I noted the Dow was over 44,000 for the first time ever (44,091.25).  It closed at 43,988.99.  The S&P went over 6,000.

It was said that the MAGA people are garbage – previously call “deplorables.”   Seriously?  We have stooped to that kind of talk about our fellow Americans.  I remember the pledge to the flag says: “One nation under God, indivisible.”  I pray that we can get back to that truth – reality.

Then there was, and yet is, talk about Trump people being uneducated, non-thinkers and duped.

It was often said that Trump people are misogynists, racists, homophobic, etc.  I know a lot of Trump people and I don’t know a single one who is any of those things.  I concede that there are surely some.

I wearied of the repeated promises to “fight.”  “I’ll fight for you.”  Is that what it is about – fighting?  Can we not have discussions and debates then take a vote and move on??

In Nebraska we had some interesting initiatives:

  1. Concerning abortion were initiatives #434 and #439.  Initiative #439 was about opening a floodgate of abortion options and it was voted down with #434 leaving options for more restrictions than the current cap at 12 weeks.  However, the vote was pretty close.  We are more and more a culture of party and play with limited or no consequences and a culture of death.  Ugh!
  2. Then there was one about medical marijuana which passed with 70% voting in favor. It seems that even a casual look at Colorado would cause one to be very careful about starting down the cannabis road.  The medical idea will soon be lost to a host of excuses and MJ will be impacting many – and too often negatively.
  3. I’m troubled that over 74% of my neighbors and friends think that socialism is good.  There was an initiative mandating that employers provide paid sick leave for workers – that is socialism plain and simple!  That road leads to more and more government and less and less freedom.

Now about the presidential election:  We are not out of the woods or is it out of the fog or is it out of weeds – the election is not sure until noon on January 20th.  Why say I such?

First, the electoral college has to vote on Dec. 17.  Then the “college” votes are tallied on Jan. 6 and certified by the presiding officer of the Senate – Vice President Kamala Harris!

Then on Jan. 20 is the inauguration – the swearing in and seating of the President.  At noon on that day the election should be set – but not until then!

Consider:

  1. There have already been two assassination attempts on Trump.  And another just foiled by the DOJ on Nov. 8.  There will likely be more.
  2. If I’m President Zi Jinping of China and wanting to take over Taiwan would I be more apt to do so with Biden as the Commander in Chief or Trump?
  3. There is a lot of talk about the financial condition of the country and maybe a looming crisis.
  4. The reaction, while a lot of depression and weeping, has been strangely void of rioting.  That is eerie to me. What looms?  In her concession speech, there were repeated comments about fighting on.  What might that look like?

Remember that Joe Biden is still President until noon Jan. 20.

I think there are many potholes and traps in the path to Jan. 20.  It is important to keep praying.
