WOW – the beat goes on and gets louder! The foundations are being pressured, in some cases cracking and at some point, and maybe soon, give way (Psalm 11:3). These are interesting, troubling and even evil days. II Timothy 3:1, know this, that in the last days perilous times will come.
Such seems to be playing out before our eyes:
- Israel battling with a number of groups which could escalate.
- World War III happening in the Ukraine – there are 30 countries involved in that war.
- Boeing on strike and her space ship failure.
- Dockworkers on the East Coast on strike – watch prices soar! You can expect the President to invoke the Taft-Hartley Act and force an 80-day cooling down period which in essence will kick-the-can down the road past the elections.
- The horrific damage by hurricane Helene – pray for those dear people. The rebuild will affect us all!
- The allowing into our country the evil, wicked, violent Venezuelan criminal gang Tren de Aragua now perpetrating violence in our country, especially in Denver – a sanctuary city.
- The soaring debt and interest service stripping away monies for infrastructure maintenance.
- The political ads which are just nauseating – from BOTH sides!
- Continuing inflation or the residue of inflation (the price of eggs!). Boeing and dockworkers both cite the deterioration of their standard of living as reasons for striking – they are not alone with that pain.
- Two very flawed candidates to choose from to represent and lead us as a country. Seriously, this is the best we can do??? It is a vote for the lesser of two “evils.”
Don’t make character the primary criteria for your vote, rather actions. Remember old adage that actions speak louder than words? God says so:
They profess to know God, but in works they deny Him, being abominable, disobedient, and disqualified for every good work,Titus 1:16.
Even a child is known by his deeds, whether what he does is pure and right, Proverbs 20:11.
A good tree cannot bear bad fruit, nor can a bad tree bear good fruit. Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire. Therefore, by their fruits you will know them, Matthew 7:18-20.
Don’t let words override deeds, Jesus taught us such:
Jesus answered them, “Is it not written in your law, ‘I said, “You are gods” ’? If He called them gods, to whom the word of God came (and the Scripture cannot be broken), do you say of Him whom the Father sanctified and sent into the world, ‘You are blaspheming,’ because I said, ‘I am the Son of God’? If I do not do the works of My Father, do not believe Me; but if I do, though you do not believe Me, believe the works, that you may know and believe that the Father is in Me, and I in Him.” Therefore they sought again to seize Him, but He escaped out of their hand, John 10:34-39.
These are “perilous times” so don’t be swooned by rhetoric – promises – words. Both candidates have a body of works upon which to draw to determine the preference. Both candidates are poor in similar and different ways. Both fail to meet the standards that most of us expect from leaders, especially leaders in such a powerful position.
We remember the God uses flawed vessels (just look in the mirror), so know their works and vote based on that. And now I have given all these lands into the hand of Nebuchadnezzar the king of Babylon, My servant, Jeremiah 27:6. And Nebby was NO Sunday School boy: For the king of Babylon stands at the parting of the road, at the fork of the two roads, to use divination: he shakes the arrows, he consults the images, he looks at the liver (Ezekiel 21:21). In making a decision about war, he spun the arrows, consulted images and killed a sheep and read the direction the liver pointed after quivering ceased. Pretty dark stuff, but Nebby was used by God.
So, of the two vying for the Oval Office, who will be better are at dealing with the immigration issue, Israel and Iran, inflation (cause of strikes), etc.
We live in volatile days. Eyes on Jesus and be loud and bold for Jesus! Your kids, family, neighbors and work associates need to see a hope and strength in you and that comes from God alone.
I’m reminded of Psalm 40:2-3, He also brought me up out of a horrible pit, out of the miry clay, and set my feet upon a rock, and established my steps. He has put a new song in my mouth – Praise to our God! Many will see it and fear, and will trust in the Lord.
