I woke a couple of times in the night pondering our preparedness for war.
Why? Why did I have such thoughts? I watched baseball last night prior to bed and only a little news. Yet, somewhere in the previous hours and/or days something was seen or heard that likely fostered such thoughts in the night.
Some musings:
The U.S. is in four proxy wars 1. with Russia in the Ukraine, 2. with China supporting Taiwan, 3. with Iran helping Israel, and 4. with socialists flooding our southern border.
While these “wars” are mostly in a support role (even the border war), in time and possibly very soon, they could turn into direct war efforts and such will require vastly more amounts of energy. Like tanks, planes, guns, bullets, drones, and other military needs and these don’t just pop into existence! No, it takes energy to mine, transport, transform and manufacture, transport and launch or propel the weapons toward the enemy. It takes energy.
And we are not energy independent and in fact, we are in an energy shortage.
California today experiences rolling brown-outs due to energy shortage. The national oil reserve typically holds enough oil for 45 days of national need – today we have 15 days’ worth.
I heard this just this morning (and this prompted me to write this piece) that Wyoming citizens are now facing a large rate increase for energy and their reality is coming to all of us.
As our military is in greater and greater need for equipment and fuel, there will be more and more demand on the energy available to Americans for everyday living.
I can see the White House being forced to reverse course on the drilling for oil and extraction of coal, but I think it will be too late.
I can see our gasoline and diesel prices skyrocketing soon. For those who have agreed with OPPD to allow them access to their thermostat for a rate reduction, you will soon find your thermostat at 65 and you will have no means to advance it. This happened in Denver this past summer with AC and energy needs.
The United States is weak! I would not have thought that or said that a few years ago, but that is my take today. We are weak morally. We are weak academically. We are weak emotionally. We are weak in faith. We are weak in wisdom. We are weak in resolve. We are weak in energy!
It takes energy to be strong, successful and ready for the unknown. Energy comes from knowing history and successes against great odds (Martin Luther posting the 95 on Oct 31 and George Washington at Valley Forge). Energy comes from the lives of achievers around us (Jessica in a battle with cancer expressing great faith and hope). Energy comes from knowing that there is a God who knows all and can handle all (the tomb of Jesus is empty!).
Energy comes from coal and oil (along with a few other lesser resources).
America is facing great challenges and America needs energy – America needs oil and coal!
America needs energy!!!
