Mark 7:1-3, Then the Pharisees and some of the scribes came together to Him, having come from Jerusalem. Now when they saw some of His disciples eat bread with defiled, that is, with unwashed hands, they found fault. For the Pharisees and all the Jews do not eat unless they wash, they found wash their hands in a special way, holding the tradition of the elders.
So, Jesus’ opposition filed a lawsuit to address His disregard for “democracy” and the “law”.
[and verse 4, When they come from the marketplace, they do not eat unless they wash. And there are many other things which they have received and hold, like the washing of cups, pitchers, copper vessels, and couches.]
The bureaucrats of Jerusalem (D.C.) created lists and logs of rules, regs, guidelines, codes and applications – volumes and volumes of requirements for the citizens.
They took Him to “court” – the “D.A.’s” charge:
7:5, Then the Pharisees and scribes asked Him, “Why do Your disciples not walk according to the tradition of the elders, but eat bread with unwashed hands?”
Jesus responded by quoting the “Constitution” – the Bible!
7:6-7, He answered and said to them, “Well did Isaiah prophesy of you hypocrites, as it is written: ‘This people honors Me with their lips, but their heart is far from Me. And in vain they worship Me, teaching as doctrines the commandments of men.’
Jesus, right back at them – “You hypocrites!” You actors, you phonies, you fakes! WOW!
Then Jesus went on the offensive: “You reject the commandment of God, that you may keep your tradition” (7:9). You say, If a man says a windfall is a gift from God (Corban), he is no longer obligated to care for his mother and father as the law of God requires. You allow a man to not pay the taxes owed or to live outside or above the law. You allow shell companies, tax evasion and gifts to be unaccounted for.
Jesus then turned to social media – He “tweeted” – He used “X” and “Facebook”:
7:14-16, When He had called all the multitude to Himself, He said to them, “Hear Me, everyone, and understand: There is nothing that enters a man from outside which can defile him; but the things which come out of him, those are the things that defile a man. If anyone has ears to hear, let him hear!”
Matthew 15:12-14, The Pharisees were offended when they heard his saying… He said, They are blind leaders of the blind and if the blind leads the blind, both will fall into a ditch.”
They were incensed – inflamed! They had to remove Him from Facebook and Twitter!
He then held a rally attended by supporters where he declared His positions and takes on the bureaucracy attacking Him:
7:17-18, When He had entered a house away from the crowd, His disciples asked Him concerning the parable. So He said to them, “Are you thus without understanding also?… What comes out of a man defiles a man. ”
He explained the heart of the issue: the enemies had listened to their heart, their head, and to other men and not to God. They were not following righteousness or Scripture! They were vaxxed with power, self and greed!
[Vaxx thoughts: 7:18-19, So He said to them…Do you not perceive that whatever enters a man from outside cannot defile him, because it does not enter his heart but his stomach, and is eliminated, thus purifying all foods?” Injecting straight into the vein is very dangerous as the body’s natural ability to sort out the bad is circumvented.]
Jesus went on to describe the people of the swamp:
7:21-23, He said, “For from within, out of the heart of men, proceed evil thoughts, adulteries, fornications, murders, thefts, covetousness, wickedness, deceit, lewdness, an evil eye, blasphemy, pride, foolishness. All these evil things come from within and defile a man.”
