A Light at Christmas

Many artists and card companies are famous for winter pictures at night, often including a church building with its lights on.

Look over the cards you have received this season and take note.

Here are some sources of such pictures:

Terry Redlin
Norman Rockwell
Hallmark Cards
Wellspring Cards

Yesterday was December 21 with roadways busy with people hustling about doing their last-minute Christmas shopping.  Last night, Gretna had a winter storm blow through with snow, wind and cold.  Tonight, it was just deep, deep winter bad cold – ten below – with some wind (windchills around -35).  Both nights Standing Stone Bible Church, which sits along a very major travel artery, had her lights on.

Both nights I thought of the cars passing knowing that people might look over to a church with lights on.  I thought of the cards and pictures of Christmas.

I realize that across Omaha and the area, most churches were dark.  MOST!  Such makes me think of Europe where most churches are dark every evening and most days.

God has given us a prime location and it is both a privilege and a duty to use it as a witness.  I think the lights shining from SSB on a cold winter’s night at Christmas is just such a witness.  Jesus is the light of the world (John 8:12).

Isaiah 9:2, The people who walked in darkness have seen a great light; Those who dwelt in the land of the shadow of death, upon them a light has shined.

Isaiah is speaking of Jesus and SSB represents Jesus!
