Nature

I was very thankful that someone has finally acknowledged my activism to save animals – those delight bundles of fur with dark eyes.

This note was in my inbox on Oct 21, 2022:

Dear Friend,
Your devotion to the animals this year has been nothing short of incredible. Want to see for yourself? Each of the wins below happened because of your dedication to creating a kinder, more compassionate world for the animals. These recent legislative wins were made possible by people like you who advocate for pets, as well as volunteer, foster, adopt and donate to support the animals.

For whatever reason, I did receive this note. Causing questions like, “Why me?  How did I get on their radar?  I don’t own a single critter.  I don’t peruse animal sites.  I don’t buy animal things.  So, why me?”

Furthermore, I’m no nature or animal or climate activist.  I don’t belong to any such group nor do I support their level of activism.

Yet, I do love animals – they are God’s incredible creation. All the shapes, configurations and abilities scream a creative, amazing and fun God!

I care about animals/nature – God does!

Matthew 10:29, Are not two sparrows sold for a copper coin? And not one of them falls to the ground apart from your Father’s will.

Luke 12:27, Consider the lilies, how they grow: they neither toil nor spin; and yet I say to you, even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these.

Luke 12:28, If then God so clothes the grass, which today is in the field and tomorrow is thrown into the oven

If God takes note of such little or insignificant things – so should I!

Now, I don’t elevate sparrows, flowers or grass to any status near that of any human and certainly nothing near my love and adoration of God or even to a second tier love which is for humans – God’s image bearers who will live forever.  However, sparrows, flowers and grass are created by God for my enjoyment and each is used by God for lessons and in their own small way used to bring balance to nature.

Nature is God’s amazing design, creation and blessing and is worthy of my pausing to be impressed and moved to thankfulness and service. May we be good users, keepers and promoters.

They note my “incredible” devotion to create a “kinder, more compassionate world for the animals.” How many people think that their activism for nature makes them incredible? How many think that their devotion will indeed “save the planet”? How many think that in being highly engaged in saving whales, puppies or owls that they will have a better afterlife or even be welcomed into Heaven by doing such?

I read that there is a way to Heaven – ONE!  Jesus declared that He was the way and that nobody comes to the Father any other way (John 14:6).  Kindness to animals is nice but it does nothing to save me or the planet.  Jesus alone does both!

[This response a few hours after this musing was sent:  We are here together at Pfeffers & I read your musing on animals to the group. We have determined you ARE the owner of animals.  Namely the pinto and the cougar.   Such is true – I am an animal lover!  Maybe I boarder on the fanatical side as such animals are expensive to keep.]
