Mental Health IV

Mental Health comes from a proper – a balanced – understanding of who we are:

Man is unique and empowered – from Genesis 2:

  • there is a God, 7
  • man is created – designed and given life, 7, 22
  • man is given the planet, 8
  • man is charged to rule, 15
  • man has rules for living, 16-17
  • man needs others – not good alone, 18
  • man is superior to animals – man named them, 19-20
  • marriage is of God – family of God, 24

Man is broken and needy – from Genesis 3:

  • man stepped away from obedience opting for lusting, greed and power, 6
  • man is consumed with guilt (cover) and fear (hide), 7-8
  • man is angry (blame), 12-13
  • man finds family life troubling, 16
  • man finds work frustrating, 17-19
  • man is destined to die, 19
  • man’s life continues on, 20 (God has set eternity in our hearts, Ecclesiastes 3:11)
  • there is help and hope, 21

Mental Health is thus twofold: an understanding of being superior to plants and animals, individually unique and charged with special duties while at the same time being a sinner, under punishment by a just God and in need of help.

To the Mental Health “Crisis” – in part, what to do:

  1. stop the glorification of violence in the media and in video games
  2. stop websites that promote hatred toward groups
  3. stop statements of hatred toward the other political party
  4. stop nasty statements on social media platforms
  5. stop the racial profiling
  6. stop racial hiring quotas – affirmative actions
  7. stop the “No child left behind” philosophy – the “all are winners” mentality
  8. stop the idea that losing is failure
  9. stop the “I deserve” talk – the entitlement thinking
  10. stop pandering – the giving privilege
  11. stop the enabling – excusing
  12. stop the accusing – blaming
  13. stop the coveting, greed, evil and lusting – pressing to keep up with others
  14. stop the criticizing of authorities – police, umpires, coaches, parents
  15. stop trusting drugs as the fix (only in a few cases)
  16. stop using screens as babysitters – kids need adult supervision
  17. stop the busyness of sports rather than manual labor (chores)
  18. stop the fear of “crushing self-esteem” – they need their self crushed!  (not My will!)
  19. 19 stop self-glorifying – “I”  “I”  “I”
  20. 20 stop the busyness – chasing is not healthy, Psalm 46:10

These are but some of the philosophical and subtle things we need to come to grips with that are lending to the “crisis” we face in this country.  The greater issues lie in the open rebellion to the values and wisdom found in The Ten Commandments which is really a rebellion against the God of life, nature and wisdom.  May we be willing to come into submission to His will and way.
