Family Poisons

Biblical family is a male and a female bonded and reproducing and serving one another.  Or…  family is this or that – your idea or mine – or that of the government, the elites or the masses. Family is the foundation of a society or maybe a dinosaur whose worth is now past?  In America, the traditional family is quickly slipping into history with a rise of any number of new ideas.

Family per God is about showing Jesus and His church or God and His family (Ephesians 5:21-32):

1. It is about the two adult sexes being equal (joint heirs) with different roles (love and respect, Ephesians 5:33 – he to sacrifice, she be subject to) to model love and teamwork.
2. It is about reproduction – about bearing children
3. It is about passing on values, obeying authorities and relating with others
4. It is about education – first about God, then character molding, and then about books
5. It is about support, security, a refuge, a shelter

Family and children are God’s will and God’s way (Genesis 2:18-25).  Children are God’s blessing – Behold, children are a heritage from the Lord, the fruit of the womb is a reward (Psalm 127:3).

In God’s commission to mankind, He told them to subdue, to exercise dominion, and to fill (Genesis 1:28) which means fill the earth with people.  God opens and closes wombs – God gives birth!

Isaiah 66:9, Shall I bring to the time of birth, and not cause delivery?” says the Lord.
Genesis 29:31, When the Lord saw that Leah was unloved, He opened her womb;
Genesis 20:18, …for the Lord had closed up all the wombs of the house of Abimelech
Exodus 1:20-21, God dealt well with the midwives, and the people multiplied and grew very mighty. And so it was, because the midwives feared God, that He provided households for them.

Far too many Americans today have “drank the Kool-Aid” – a reference to the mass suicide in Guyana, in 1978 where the cult of Jim Jones together drank poisoned Flavor Aid and 909 died!

The poison in today’s “Kool-Aid” is that the world is overpopulated, that humans are destroying the earth by pollution, and that children are an impediment to freedom, living and joy.

The poison today is that early education is of great benefit for children, that day cares are adequate replacements for Mom and the home, and that the professionals and government know best.

The poison today is that giving children many perks and privileges, paying for a good college education and an “elite” sports experience are marks of good parenting.

The poison today is that divorce and remarriage are fully acceptable and that children, being so resilient, are not greatly impacted by the break-up of their parents.

The poison today is that faith, God, and absolutes like the Ten Commandments, while they may work for some, are not necessary for a healthy family.

The poison today is that quality events (time) are sufficient – in contrast to quantity events.  That is, do special things for a child to make up for being disengaged or absent much of the time.  The problem? Quality times happen unannounced.  When a child asks a question about nature or God or sex – who is there to answer?  A friend?  A non-believer?  Nobody?

The poison today is that the idea of family is open to any combination of people and any definition imaginable.

Colossians 2:8, Beware lest anyone cheat you through philosophy and empty deceit, according to the tradition of men, according to the basic principles of the world, and not according to Christ.

The truth is that, from an early TV drama series – God the “Father knows best”.

For family, God knows best!  And what does our Father say?
