Help! Jesus!

The Beatles said it well:  Help! I need somebody.  Help! not just anybody.

Help! – you know I need someone – Help!

A problem is that too many people never come to grips with their deep-set need for help, nor do they engage in a serious search for help.

However, everyone at some point in life or often in life or all through life cry, “I need help!”

For example:

A look at a grammar test with little preparation brings forth a cry of “HELP!”

Watching parents in a heightened level of fighting brings forth a child’s, “Someone, HELP!”

Facing the death of a classmate or of a close friend brings forth a “HELP – I need someone!”

But are they serious about a transforming help?  Most not!

Listen to the Beatles’ cry for help from someone, not just anyone, but help from someone.  In the days past they could handle life: they were independent with both feet securely on the ground, but not now!  Now they were crying for help from someone – “Someone, help!”  Listen:

When I was younger so much younger than today
I never needed anybody’s help in any way
But now these days are gone, I’m not so self-assured

Most likely two of the Beatles have gone into the next life never finding the life help for which they cried, nor the help they needed for life in the here and now.

The answer to their cry and the answer for everyone’s cry for “Help” is Jesus; the way, the truth and the life (John 14:6).  Why Jesus?  Well, Jesus walked through life in love, joy, confidence, purpose and hope and conquered death and the grave.  He appears to be the Someone for Help!

Jesus was the someone Joseph Schriven found as the answer to his cry for “Help”.

He wrote a poem about it.  Listen…

What a friend we have in Jesus, all our sins and griefs to bear!
What a privilege to carry everything to God in prayer!
Oh, what peace we often forfeit, Oh, what needless pain we bear,
All because we do not carry everything to God in prayer!

Have we trials and temptations? Is there trouble anywhere?
We should never be discouraged—take it to the Lord in prayer.
Can we find a friend so faithful, Who will all our sorrows share?
Jesus knows our every weakness; take it to the Lord in prayer.

Are we weak and heavy-laden, cumbered with a load of care?
Precious Savior, still our refuge—take it to the Lord in prayer.
Do thy friends despise, forsake thee? Take it to the Lord in prayer!
In His arms He’ll take and shield thee, Thou wilt find a solace there.

Blessed Savior, Thou hast promised thou wilt all our burdens bear;
May we ever, Lord, be bringing all to Thee in earnest prayer.
Soon in glory bright, unclouded, there will be no need for prayer—
Rapture, praise, and endless worship will be our sweet portion there.

“Help, I need somebody!”  That Somebody is Jesus!  He is the One we all need!
