How terrible is the news today – for those parents and family, for the other students and school staff, for the extended family and friends, for the officers who have to process the scene, for the community, for America and for each of us. This is just terribly horrible!
In the wake of the mass shooting in Uvalde, TX today that claimed the lives of 19 children, two teachers, and a grandmother, Senator Chris Murphy of Connecticut stood on the floor of the U.S. Senate repeatedly asking, “What are we doing?”
He was especially passionate as it was in his state where the terrible Sandy Hook shooting claimed 20 young children and 6 teachers a few years ago.
To the Senator’s question, “What are we doing?” – I believe there are a number of reasons for the growth of such violence:
There is more violence and of a greater degree because we have…
Removed prayer from the classroom – there is a God!
Removed the Bible from the classroom – God is angry with the wicked
Removed talk of Jesus from the classroom – love your enemies
Removed the Ten Commandments from the public – Thou shall not kill
Removed Capital Punishment – Genesis 9:6
Removed the quick execution of justice – Ecclesiastes 8:11
Removed the value of a two parent home – Commandment #5
Removed moms from staying home
Removed respect and fear of authority – minister of God
Removed the harshness of prison
Removed guns from the back windows of pickup trucks
Removed respect for the older generations – removed their wisdom
Removed Sunday as a day for reflection and God
Removed the 11th commandment – love your neighbor as yourself
Removed talk of an eternal Hell for sinners
Removed the importance of church
Removed the sanctity of life – abortion is murder
Removed the responsibility of being human – too much “I deserve”
Removed the ability of young people to hold meaningful jobs
Removed the idea that hard work builds character
God has declared: “Righteousness exalts a nation.”
“What are we doing?” We are removing righteousness.
