KC Wolf

Saturday, SSB was blessed to have the mascot of the Kansas City Chiefs on site to tell his story of salvation, life and recovery – the K.C. Wolf (Dan Meers).  He was entertaining, encouraging and engaging!

Here are some quotes and quips from the two talks he gave – one to about 35 men and the other to some families, many with younger children:

1 We often ask another what is their occupation but what is more important and revealing is asking what is one’s preoccupation (what do they dream of, think on and talk of).

2 Life is like a coin – you can spend it anyway you want, but you can only spend it once. Therefore, be careful how you choose to spend your coin each day.  It all adds up.

3 Guard your thoughts for they become your words.
Guard your words for they become your actions.
Guard your actions for they become your habits.
Guard your habits for they become your character.
Guard your character for it becomes your destiny.

4 Destiny is not determined by chance but by choice.

5 I’m a bungee jump failure survivor – not many can say so.  (He fell 70-75 feet and hit chairs 22-23 of Row xxx in Section 324 of Arrowhead Stadium.  He broke 7 ribs, punctured his left lung, shattered his tail bone and broke T-12 in his back requiring a number of rods and screws)

6 Doctor told him he was very lucky that he was alive or not paralyzed.

7 If your eyes don’t water, your head will swell (you need to cry with and for others).

8 There are no accidents – only incidents in God’s plan.

9 There is no needless pain for God loves me.

10 While lying in the hospital bed he was not thinking of his house, car, money, or… but his relationships:  Faith, Family and Friends.

11 His goal every morning is to get up, go out and love people.  (Every morning he rolls on the floor in order to loosen his back.  He lives in pain every day.)

12 Relationships – the one who gets separated from the pack is the first one to get eaten.

13 When waiting for surgery he could not drink so his wife would every few minutes wet his lips with water from a sponge on a stick.  About 3:00 AM that morning he remembered that Jesus thirsted while on the cross and they lifted sour wine to his lips by a sponge on a stick.

14 Jesus did not die to make bad people good but to make dead people alive.

15 Peace in life is not like a lake with no storm, but having Jesus in your boat in the storm.

16 God’s principles and promises never fail – never!  Feelings and circumstances may change, but not God!

17 Going to PT one morning he heard the radio host noting that everyone has reason to complain, but also reason to give thanks – choose the latter.

18 It’s OK to have pain – just don’t be a pain!

19 Choose to rise and shine, not rise and whine (Matthew 5:16).

20 When visiting an orphanage in Haiti he was reminded that when living to self, small problems get huge.

21 He gives all his book proceeds to ministries in order to make an impact for Jesus every day.

22 Live life for what matters.

23 He was a three-sport bench warmer in high school that has turned into a 32 year NFL career.

24 He has as many costumes as Lady Gaga.

25 A mascot is someone who is two peas short of a casserole.

26 Too many think of God as having two chalkboards in heaven keeping a tally of all a person’s good and bad – NOT so!  Salvation is a gift from God all by the work of Jesus!
