Isaiah 52

Some thoughts about the chapter we used to celebrate the resurrection of our Jesus – Isaiah 52.

I.  Isaiah 52:6,“Therefore My people shall know My name; therefore, they shall know in that day that I am He who speaks: ‘Behold, it is I.’”

God is speaking to the Jews – those who were taken captive in Egypt and to Assyria, 52:5.

One day they, the Jews, will know Him, recognize His voice and follow Him.

Zechariah 12:10, “And I will pour on the house of David and on the inhabitants of Jerusalem the Spirit of grace and supplication; then they will look on Me whom they pierced. Yes, they will mourn … 12, And the land shall mourn…

Isaiah 66:8, Who has heard such a thing?  Who has seen such things? Shall the earth be made to give birth in one day? Or shall a nation be born at once? For as soon as Zion was in labor, she gave birth to her children.

52:9, Break forth into joy, sing together, You waste places of Jerusalem! For the Lord has comforted His people, He has redeemed Jerusalem.

II.  Isaiah 52:1, Awake, awake! Put on your strength, O Zion; put on your beautiful garments, O Jerusalem, the holy city! For the uncircumcised and the unclean shall no longer come to you.

The restored Jerusalem will no longer host non-believers or sinners.  No longer will the city be pushed around by the world, rather the city will be holy before the Lord.  And in such a state the people are to dress up – put on robes worthy of their conquering King!

Such reminds me that if we embraced the King of kings – we ought to dress like it.  If we come to worship the God who reigns (52:7), we ought to dress for the occasion!

III.  Isaiah 52:15, So shall He sprinkle many nations.

The redemption and salvation promised to the Jews and Jerusalem will spill over to other nations and peoples.  The death of Jesus for the sins of men will have impact on nations, tribes, peoples and tongues, Revelation 7:9.

IV.  Isaiah 52:5,Those who rule over them make them wail,” says the Lord, and My name is blasphemed continually every day… 10, The Lord has made bare His holy arm in the eyes of all the nations; and all the ends of the earth shall see the salvation of our God.

Zechariah 12:9, It shall be in that day that I will seek to destroy all the nations that come against Jerusalem.

Isaiah 40:5, The glory of the Lord shall be revealed, and all flesh shall see it together.

Isaiah 49:7, Thus says the Lord, The Redeemer of Israel, their Holy One, To Him whom man despises, To Him whom the nation abhors, To the Servant of rulers: “Kings shall see and arise, Princes also shall worship, Because of the Lord who is faithful, The Holy One of Israel;

V.  Isaiah 52:7, How beautiful upon the mountains are the feet of him who brings good news, Who proclaims peace, Who brings glad tidings of good things, Who proclaims salvation, Who says to Zion, “Your God reigns!”

Deuteronomy 33:26, “There is no one like the God of Jeshurun, Who rides the heavens to help you, and in His excellency on the clouds.”

Revelation 19:11-12, Now I saw heaven opened, and behold, a white horse. And He who sat on him was called Faithful and True, and in righteousness He judges and makes war. His eyes were like a flame of fire, and on His head were many crowns.

Sing joyfully! Sing loudly! Sing always! SING of and to our great God!!!
