God Is Sovereign!

In these days of upheaval, inflation, change, confusion, and “fear”, it is good to remind ourselves of the God we claim to acknowledge, say we love, and profess we are seeking to follow.  What does God say about His authority, workings and reign?

Consider:

John 10:18, No one takes it from Me, but I lay it down of Myself. I have power to lay it down, and I have power to take it again.

Daniel 4:17, That the Most High rules in the kingdom of men, gives it to whomever He will, and sets over it the lowest of men.

Isaiah 46:9-10, I am God, and there is no other; I am God, and there is none like me, declaring the end from the beginning and from ancient times things not yet done, saying, “My counsel shall stand, and I will accomplish all my purpose.

Isaiah 43:13, Indeed before the day was, I am He; and there is no one who can deliver out of My hand; I work, and who will reverse it?

Job 42:2, “I know that you can do all things, and that no purpose of yours can be thwarted.”

Ephesians 1:11, God “works all things according to the counsel of his will.”

Daniel 2:21, “He removes kings and he sets up kings.”

Matthew 10:29, “Are not two sparrows sold for a penny? And not one of them will fall to the ground apart from your Father.”

Romans 8:32, He who did not spare His own Son, but delivered Him up for us all.

Proverbs16:33, “The lot [dice] is cast in the lap but its every decision is from the Lord.”

Deuteronomy 32:4, “The Rock, his work is perfect, for all his ways are justice. A God of faithfulness and without iniquity, just and upright is he.”

Isaiah 45:6-7, That there is none besides Me. I am the Lord, and there is no other; I form the light and create darkness, I make peace and create calamity; I, the Lord, do all these things.

Psalm 115:3, But our God is in heaven; He does whatever He pleases.

Isaiah 40:7, The grass withers, the flower fades, because the breath of the Lord blows upon it;

Isaiah 40:15, Behold, the nations are as a drop in a bucket, and are counted as the small dust on the scales; Look, He lifts up the isles as a very little thing.

Isaiah 40:25-26, “To whom then will you liken Me, Or to whom shall I be equal?” says the Holy One. Lift up your eyes on high, and see who has created these things, Who brings out their host by number; He calls them all by name, by the greatness of His might and the strength of His power; not one is missing.

Job – God to Satan – “You can deal with Job, but not touch him” and so it happened – terrible things, but no touch of Job.  Later, “You can touch Job, but not kill him” and so Satan dealt, BUT did not kill him.

Acts 4:27-28, Truly in this city [Jerusalem] there were gathered together against your holy servant Jesus, whom you anointed, both Herod and Pontius Pilate, along with the Gentiles and the peoples of Israel, to do whatever your hand and your plan had predestined to take place.

And have those proclamations by God of His absolute rule been proven?  Is there reason to believe what God has so boldly declared?  YES! – on many fronts!

  1. Christmas – a virgin, in Bethlehem, a star, wailing in Bethlehem
  2. Jesus’ life – called out of Egypt, hidden, despised, rejected, of sorrow, alone
  3. Jesus’ death – pierced, without a bone broken, Mary’s heart pierced
  4. the Resurrection – visually seen after, transformed followers
  5. “Be still” to the wind – and exactly then it was so!
  6. Lazarus stunk for he was days dead – when his name was called, out he came
  7. to lions – “DO NOT touch!” and Daniel was alive come morning
  8. to Belshazzar – the handwriting – “tonight your kingdom is taken” and so it was
  9. sins forgiven – “take up your bed and walk” – immediately so, Mark 2

Isaiah 40:5, The glory of the Lord shall be revealed, and all flesh shall see it together; for the mouth of the Lord has spoken.”

Psalm 34:8, “Oh, taste and see that the Lord is good! Blessed is the man who takes refuge in him!”
