A History Lesson

I’m thinking of JFK’s assassination on this day in 1963, which is a deep scar on our dear country.  And over the years there have been more scars with many coming only recently!

Considering the world of Adam and Eve and making application to we of the United States:

Adam and Eve were privileged to live in a wonderful place – a great country!  They had peace, an abundance of provisions, freedom to exercise authority over animals and property (dominion and subdue), fulfilling labor serving a most benevolent “governor”, wonderful family, and sweet relationship with God (freedom of religion).

[in the USA: mostly true – once upon a time!  “In God we trust!”]

But lurking in their “country” – in the Garden of Eden – was deception which suggested that they could have it better!  It was obvious there were things around them from which they were restricted by the rules of those over them.  It was proposed that their personal freedoms could be greater (flesh), their possessions larger (look upon), and their authority and status much more (be like God, Genesis 3:1-4) if they only had more freedom.  It was argued that their life was stifled by regulations and religion for there was more, much more, to be known and enjoyed.

[in the USA:  more freedom with no consequences like for all sexual expressions like gender choice, sleeping around, and abortion.  “I should be able to own a nice, large house and drive new cars and take exotic vacations like others.  Living in America, I DESERVE such!”]

Satan was not content with the prestige, powers or blessings of his existence.  No, Satan didn’t appreciate his place of service to his Creator and Lord (Ezekiel 28:11-19), so he sought to displace God and take over rule per his own prowess and place.

[in the USA:  those over us – politicians and CEO’s, rather than setting a good example of thankfulness and contentment, use their influences and power to get more and rise higher.]

Adam and Eve lived in beauty, peace, joy, fellowship and communion with their Creator and Lord.  They were free of fear, guilt, shame, anger, and selfishness; but they became discontented and they moved to acquire more autonomy – more self-rule.

[in the USA:  not content with paved roads often paid for by others, freedoms protected by the death of others (war), medicines which cost millions to create due to paying for all the failures, and safe parks and neighborhoods.  No – MORE!  So debt and debt and debt to get more!]

As Satan was not content and challenged God’s authority and ways, Adam and Eve agreed and joined in the protest.

[in the USA:  there is a growing challenge to the country’s values, constitution, and history.]

And how did that work out for Satan?  You know the story!

How did that work out for Adam and Eve?  You know the story!

So, what can we expect to be the end of our story as we follow Satan as did Adam and Eve?

Because of the rebellion of Adam and Eve…

It is man’s desire from birth to death to be in charge – do it my way.

It is man’s will to be free and able to manage his own life – press for wealth and pleasure.

It is man’s nature to covet, lust, and be greedy – be discontented and unthankful.

Those are the traits that now haunt the United States of America!

And what can we expect will be the outcome?
