Creation Days 2021: Session #3

The pastors took Bill to lunch yesterday in Gretna and upon exiting the eatery, there sat a Lamborghini – wide, low, almost sinister with four big pipes out the rear – WOW!  My mind went through the other eaters inside wondering who was the owner.  But what really caught my attention was the license plate – TRMP  WON.  I can see someone keying or marring that car simply in response to the plate.

Last night’s (Tues, Aug 17, 2021) talk was titled:  “Which Bias Is the Best Bias to Be Biased By”. The talk can be viewed at: https://www.facebook.com/SSBCgretna/videos/2970614876484665

A Bias is a mental leaning, a prejudice, an inclination or something one is partial to.  So, what is one bent toward in analyzing life and making life decisions.  What is one’s Worldview?

Bill Jack did a one-on-one interview with Robert Baaker, Ph.D. who was a large player in shifting the thinking to dinosaurs being ancestors of birds.  Baaker introduced himself as half Jew, half Pentecostal, and half Dutch Reformed – Humm!

Jack: “He’s charming, disarming and quirky – you’d love to have him over for supper…he’s friendly. He’s the most dangerous man your student will sit under.”

Colossians 2:8, Beware lest anyone cheat you through philosophy and empty deceit, according to the tradition of men, according to the basic principles of the world, and not according to Christ.

“He’s not afraid to talk of spiritual things.”  He quoted the Bible and used the Bible along with his wrong thinking.  He threw out Christian terms and people like Billy Graham making one think he was well versed.  Jesus said: You have heard that it was said (Matthew 5:27a) thus warning us to be wise about gurus and smooth talkers – about college professors.

The problem with evolution is DEATH.  Death is necessary for there to be progress which is just the opposite of the creationist position where death came after all things were in place and is a detriment to all nature.

Assumptions determine Conclusions.  He showed a clip from Jurassic Park which included both facts and assumptions intertwined and thus easily confused.

Bill Jack talked of God being “just”.  Dr. Baaker changed it to “God is fair.”  He noted that the Old Testament shows God as “fair.”  He said that only one species sins – that a chimp killing a chimp is not murder, just nature.  That it is unfair for God to punish animals because of man thus the death of animals is not due to the curse for man’s sin (not according to Romans 8:28).  Bill talked about putting animals down that bite and that there are bars between animals at the zoo – why?  If it is just nature and not an evil or sin thing, then let them kill and kill.

Baaker uses two books – the Book of Rocks with the Book of Scripture, which he sees as equals.  He declared that it is more important to study Scripture than to believe in God and that there is a lot of damage done by those who believe in God (this is what many truly think of us today).  The Bible gives us a check-and-balance for living.  John 4 talks about “Spirit and truth” pointing to the need of the Spirit to make the Bible come alive thus faith in Jesus is essential to the Bible being a sure guide for it is only upon true salvation that the Spirit moves in and illuminates the Bible.

Baaker believes in “uniformitarianism” which is that the same process has been in existence forever.  II Peter 3:4 notes such thinking and refutes it.  The flood, the virgin birth, and the resurrection are all outside of that idea.

Bill Jack then shifted over to Hugh Ross and an encounter he had with him at a large convention where the next day they rode together and had time to discuss their differences.  He asked Dr. Ross if he will hear, “Well done, good and faithful servant – you did well with my Word.”  Dr. Ross was silent – his wife replied, “I hope so.”

So, the best Bias?  Scripture is the best Bias to be Biased by!
