Creation Days 2021: Session #2

Monday night’s Creation Days session used trains as a teaching tool (PK – “And why not?”).  He noted that many don’t talk about trains any longer to which I rose in protest:  “Not at SSB – trains are a big deal here!” – at least in my mind!

Bill told about the race to build a ribbon of steel from Omaha to Sacramento which met at Promontory Point, Utah, on May 10, 1869.  He talked about the Northern Pacific rail that was laid without government support verses the UP and CP (Central Pacific) line which was heavily subsidized by the government.

He noted that our culture was once heavily reliant on trains to move people – just look at the two great depots just south of downtown Omaha!  (The last passenger train through NP was June of ’71 and I was there!)  We still have a lot of railroad phrases such as: 1. off track, 2. get on board, 3. side tracked, 4. the train left the station, 5. that was a train wreck, 6. the platform, 7. etc.

He noted that the Christmas movie “It’s a Wonderful Life” has been replaced by a train movie (No, Chris – not Elf!) – Polar Express.  He played a clip where “Tom” says, “The thing about trains… it doesn’t matter where they’re going. What matters is deciding to get on.”  He then showed a clip from Schindler’s List with the rail cars stuffed with Jews being taken to their death.  So, the destination certainly does matter!  He noted that the track to Auschwitz was laid ten years before any rail cars of Jews rode on them.  By the time cars of people used those tracks it was too late.

A phrase he said often:

“Words lay tracks for the consequences which are the boxcars filled with people’s lives.”

  • Worldview is like a train – too often where it is heading is not important, just like to be on the ride – on board with the crowd.
  • Much of the Nazi talk of the ‘30’s is the talk today around abortion.
  • In WWII 55 million died – by abortion 55 million have died.

Proverbs 14:12, There is a way that seems right to a man, but its end is the way of death.

“I’m not telling you to tear up the tracks to Planned Parenthood – Yes, I am!”

How?  By asking questions.

Four simple tools for Brain Surgery:

  1. What do you mean by what you are saying?
  2. How do you know that what you are saying is true?
  3. What difference does it make in your life?
  4. What if you are wrong?

II Corinthians 10:5, Casting down arguments and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ,

A common saying: “A woman has a right to control her own body.”

Ask questions:  What do you mean by “woman”?  What do you mean by “right”?  What do you mean by “control”?  What do you mean by “body”?

[PKW – That phrase gives every woman a perfect reason to reject the vaccination.]

“We have Constitutional rights!”  No!  What does the Constitution say?  “They are endowed by their Creator with certain inalienable rights…”  We have pre-Constitution rights!!

Dietrich Bonhoeffer, a German pastor imprisoned for participating in a plot to assassinate Hitler, was hanged on April 9, 1945, by a direct order from Hitler.  Bonhoeffer said: “If you board the wrong train, it does no good to run the corridor [aisle] in the opposite direction.”

So what Worldview train are you riding?  The destination matters!!
