SSB had another Creation Days Carnival on Saturday that went very well. We served up hundreds of snow cones, cotton candy sticks, and sacks of popcorn to many ages over the course of four hours. The weather was warm but not hot and there was a gentle breeze. Perfect!
Thanks to the planning and organizing team. There was a lot of good help setting up, running the venues and closing up and putting away. Thanks to all!
Many of our newer ones came out – Yeah!
Some of those who once worshiped with us showed up – Yeah!
Many of the regulars came – Yeah!
The animals were all happy (maybe not the duck that Jake was handling) – Yeah!
None of Christina’s special collection escaped captivity (the “lizard” looked plastic) – Yeah!
Some musings:
Things that all who attended should have noted – maybe not consciously aware of, yet they were there:
- The music stage over and over chattered about God.
- We are about creation – signs all over say so!
- We love music and have different flavors and presenters – thanks Tim, the youth “band”, Pete with Jettie, and one of our worship teams. What a blessing!
- No money was exchanged (on temple mount)! How many churches or church events do you attend where money is not needed nor requested? Like ZERO! That alone has to have an impact on the nominal and the unchurched.
I contemplated having my face painted but noting those who were doing the painting I feared what they might do given the opportunity.
I wore shorts and heard about it. One teen was amazed that I even owned shorts while others were offended by the white legs.
I wonder about offering a diet cauliflower syrup (or diet broccoli syrup) for the shaved ice cups for those of us who can hardly live without that vegetable.
I do wonder if there might be a clear way to present Christ, the cross, and repentance – maybe a street preacher in a tent situated on the back lot complete with a saw dust trail. Maybe a Neil Diamond thing – “Pack up the babies, grab the old ladies, and everyone go to Brother Love’s travel’n salvation show!” (Ron Brown?)
What about a guy in a white robe with a sandwich board declaring that the end is near and possibly handing out a page of info verifying the message? OK – maybe not!! We are weird enough already!
We had a great Carnival in 2021 – may there be many more ahead!
