True Sex Ed

The State Board of Education for NE is contemplating sweeping guidelines for the teaching of Sex Ed to the state’s children beginning in Kindergarten.  There is a major hearing this Friday in Lincoln concerning their proposal – you can submit a written statement to them about the proposal.

Sex Ed is way more than a science issue for there are the emotional elements of anger, fear, guilt and shame which are beyond science yet just as real.  Unlike animals, the “love act” has lifetime and even generational impacts.  I can’t tell you how many sour marriages I have dealt with because of pre-marital sex, some decades earlier, or infidelity that not only caused distancing with the couple but also touched children and their children.  Sex is far more than a physical issue as it also touches the soul and spirit.

Consider these verses from God about Sex Ed:

Jeremiah 6:15, They were not at all ashamed; nor did they know how to blush. (familiarity removes embarrassment/shame)

NIV Song of Songs 2:7, Do not arouse or awaken love until it so desires. (not all 7th graders are at the same developmental stage – some way past and others not yet)

Ephesians 5:11-12, And have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather expose them. For it is shameful even to speak of those things which are done by them in secret. (call out sin and not describe it)

Matthew 5:28, But I say to you that whoever looks at a woman to lust for her has already committed adultery with her in his heart. (define lust and adultery)

Hebrews 13:4, Marriage is honorable among all, and the bed undefiled; but fornicators and adulterers God will judge. (only sex in marriage is approved)

Genesis 2:25, And they were both naked, the man and his wife, and were not ashamed. (no shame)

Proverbs 5:15-23, Drink water from your own cistern, and running water from your own well.
Should your fountains be dispersed abroad, Streams of water in the streets? Let them be only your own, and not for strangers with you. Let your fountain be blessed, and rejoice with the wife of your youth. As a loving deer and a graceful doe, Let her breasts satisfy you at all times; and always be enraptured with her love.
 (sex is blessed in marriage)
For why should you, my son, be enraptured by an immoral woman, and be embraced in the arms of a seductress? For the ways of man are before the eyes of the Lord, and He ponders all his paths. His own iniquities entrap the wicked man, and he is caught in the cords of his sin.
He shall die for lack of instruction, and in the greatness of his folly he shall go astray.
 (or pain!)

Proverbs 6:23-29, 32, For the commandment is a lamp, and the law a light; reproofs of instruction are the way of life, to keep you from the evil woman, from the flattering tongue of a seductress. Do not lust after her beauty in your heart, nor let her allure you with her eyelids.
For by means of a harlot a man is reduced to a crust of bread; and an adulteress will prey upon his precious life. Can a man take fire to his bosom, and his clothes not be burned? Can one walk on hot coals, and his feet not be seared? So is he who goes in to his neighbor’s wife;
whoever touches her shall not be innocent…  32, Whoever commits adultery with a woman lacks understanding; He who does so destroys his own soul.  (the soul is greatly impacted)

Proverbs 7:16-18, I have spread my bed with tapestry, colored coverings of Egyptian linen.  I have perfumed my bed with myrrh, aloes, and cinnamon. Come, let us take our fill of love until morning; let us delight ourselves with love.… 25-26, Do not let your heart turn aside to her ways, Do not stray into her paths; for she has cast down many wounded, and all who were slain by her were strong men. (OUCH!  Abstinence is safe!)

True Sex Ed addresses the dangers and troubles that come from sex outside of marriage.
