From Larry Arnn of Hillsdale College:
When, shortly before Independence Day, Nike announced its plans to release an athletic shoe featuring the Betsy Ross flag, Nike spokesman Colin Kaepernick objected, condemning the flag as a symbol of racism and slavery. A social media storm followed. Consequently, Nike announced that it was halting production of the shoe. This controversy was trivial. But the episode points to something else…
What is NOT trivial is the attempt to spread anti-American ideology into every area of American life…and the fact that too many in positions of authority immediately retreat when confronted by political correctness and anti-Americanism.
The Kaepernick episode illustrates the problem of progressive education, which seeks to rewrite our nation’s history, and undermine the kind of informed patriotism that is essential to preserving liberty. Instead of learning to love America, many students today learn to hate it.
The Nike shoe controversy, like the frenzy for tearing down statues that we witnessed in so many of America’s cities last summer, is the bitter fruit of their progressive educational agenda.
A “famous” quote controversial in Omaha these days: “The man who has no sense of history is like a man with no ears or eye.”
This statement we believe to be true for we hear God say: “He commanded our fathers that they should make them known to their children…and forgot His works…Marvelous things He did in the sight of their fathers, in the land of Egypt, in the field of Zoan. He divided the sea and caused them to pass through…in the daytime also He led them with the cloud,” Psalm 78:5, 11-14.
That they may set their hope in God and not forget the works of God, Psalm 78:7.
The controversy rises over who is reported to have made the statement. Today’s local paper reports that two professors have challenged the reported source of the message as likely being other and possibly even many sources. Despite the source, the message holds true.
I have often talked about the message and the messenger over the past weeks.
Here is the official issue: Genetic fallacy
This idea is being used to throw out statements and writings of our Founding Fathers for they were slaveholders and thus flawed so all their messages should be discarded.
From the Daily Focus (of Focus on the Family) The Censoring and Silencing of Conservative Speech
As I mentioned last week, Focus on the Family’s The Daily Citizen was blocked from the site and accused of “hate speech.” The tweet in question simply stated, “On Tuesday, President-elect Joe Biden announced that he had chosen Dr. Rachal Levine to serve as Assistant Secretary for Health at the Department of HHS. Dr. Levine is a transgender woman, that is, a man who believes he is a woman.”
The tweet pointed to an article at our news outlet, The Daily Citizen, explaining the appointment and Dr. Levine’s controversial history in dealing with the COVID-19 pandemic as Pennsylvania’s Health Secretary.
An attempt for clarification from Twitter about what was “hateful” in the tweet has gone unanswered, and so our Daily Citizen account remains locked.
