The King!

Isaiah 9:6-7
For unto us a Child is born, unto us a Son is given; and the government will be upon His shoulder. and His name will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. Of the increase of His government and peace there will be no end, upon the throne of David and over His kingdom, to order it and establish it with judgment and justice from that time forward, even forever. The zeal of the Lord of hosts will perform this.

Who is this Infant swaddled and lying in a feed bunk?  The King – the King of kings!  The King over all kingdoms.  The promised descendent of David who will rule in righteousness as the government is on His shoulder.  He will be inaugurated as King over all and He will gladly assume the role (Isaiah 9:6).  He will be a wonderful King!

Isaiah 9 reports on His righteous reign…

  1. as a Wonderful Counselor
Programs and policies will all be very sound and clear.
He will be a great communicator and encourager.
  1. as the Mighty God
His use of force will be measured and effective (rod of iron).
There will be peace through strength – consequences will be swift and proper.
  1. as the Everlasting Father
He will provide – He will know the needs and address them.
He will protect – He will give security and love.
  1. as the Prince of peace
    All things will be reconciled.
There will be Unity and Love.
  1. with increase of government and a peace without end
The government will work for all.
There will be goodwill to all corners and through all of time.
  1. taking David’s throne and kingdom – tied to OT truths and promises
As David was humble, gentle and loving – so this King.
David was a conqueror, uniter, and glorious – so this King.
Jerusalem was David’s capital – such will be true of this King.
  1. bringing justice and righteousness
Justice – all wrongs and problems will be made right.
Righteous – honorable lives will abound .
It is God’s will, jealousy, and zeal to do this.  It will get done exactly as declared.

So, in the fullness of time, God sent forth His Son, born of a woman, born under the law to redeem (Galatians 4:4) just as Isaiah 9:6 prophesied – a child born, a son given!

Just as Isaiah 7:14 declared – a virgin shall bear a son and they shall called him Immanuel.

God’s Son was born of Mary in Bethlehem as Micah 5:2 prophesied.

The Child of Mary is the King of Isaiah 9.  John 18:37, Pilate said to Him, “Are You a king then?” Jesus answered, “You say rightly that I am a king.”

Therefore, we can be sure that the governing by this Child as a wonderful King will be glorious!

“Crown Him with many crowns, the Lamb upon His throne…Hail Him as thy matchless King through all eternity!” (Matthew Bridges)
