Some notes and verses taken from a message given by Dr. David Jeremiah in 2019 and broadcast Sunday morning, January 03, 2021:
Job was a good, rich, and godly man who suffered a rapid-fire series of devasting losses:
- 1:14, Oxen, donkeys, and servants were killed by enemies.
- 1:16, Sheep and servants were killed by fire.
- 1:17, Camels and servants were killed by raiders.
- 1:19, All his children were killed by a great wind when they were all together.
- 2:7, His health collapsed.
PK: It is one thing to have one boil but to be totally covered with boils is worse than the worst.
- PK: 2:9, Then Job suffered the loss of his wife’s support.
- PK: And maybe worst of all – God was silent! God was silent! Did He not know? Not care?
In all this pain and loss, five things marked Job:
- 1:20, He gave his grief to God
Job got up and tore his robe and shaved his head.
- 1:20, He worshipped his great God
Then he fell to the ground in worship
- 1:21, He acknowledged God’s goodness
The Lord gave and the Lord has taken away
- 1:21, He refused to assign guilt to God
May the name of the Lord be praised
- 1:22, He remained guiltless – sinless
In all this, Job did not sin
It’s as if Job said: You’re a good, good Father. It’s who You are!
And I’m loved by You! It’s who I am!
You are perfect in all of your ways…to us! (Chris Tomlin)
Job made three great statements:
- Job 13:15, Though He slay me, yet will I hope in Him.
- Job 19:25-26, I know that my redeemer lives, and that in the end He will stand on the earth. And after my skin has been destroyed, yet in my flesh I will see God!
Hear Job singing… Crown Him with many crowns, the Lamb upon His throne!
Awake, my soul, and sing! Of Him who died for thee!
And hail Him as thy matchless King through all eternity!
Crown Him the Lord of life! Who triumphed over the grave!
Who rose victorious o’er the strife for those He came to save! (words by Matthew Bridges)
- Job 23:10, But He knows the way that I take; when He has tested me, I will come forth as gold.
And then Job made this statement after he was confronted by God Himself:
Job 42:2, “I know that You can do all things; no purpose of Yours can be thwarted.”
It’s as if Job joined in singing:
Holy Holy Holy – all the saints adore Thee!
Casting down their golden crowns around the glassy sea
Only Thou art holy! There is none beside Thee!
Perfect in power, in love and purity. AMEN! (words by Reginald Heber)
Yes – our God is perfect in power, love and purity and He is perfect in all of His ways!!
