Luke 2:18-19, And all those who heard it marveled at those things which were told them by the shepherds. But Mary kept all these things and pondered them in her heart.
I wonder as I wander out under the sky, How Jesus the Savior did come forth to die. For poor orn’ry people like you and like I, I wonder as I wonder. (adapted by John Niles)
- I wonder as I wander…
As I wander/move/travel through life – I wonder/ponder/think/muse
As I go through life I ask myself, “Just what is the purpose of life?” If the purpose is but to die, then eat, drink and be merry – today! Or is it to give my body to be burned, bestow goods on the poor, or solve great mysteries – like COVID 19, mass killers, and poverty? I ponder on how I fit into it all.
- I wonder/ponder out under the sky
I wonder about the origin of the stars and planets and the order of it all. I ponder on the alignment of Saturn and Jupiter on December 21, 2020 and that it was pre-known by scientists as to the location and even when the two would dip below the horizon! I ponder on the star in the east that announced to sages in a far country that Jesus was born. Just what was that star, I wonder!
- Then the Christmas celebration causes me much pondering when I hear how Jesus the Savior did come for to die!
Death is an enemy and man fights death, yet Jesus came to submit to death. It so unnatural to have death as a mission – to come for to die. In His death is salvation. I need to ponder on this!
- I have great reason to ponder that it is said that He would die for poor, orn’ry people like you and like I – like me? I ponder on my condition before God. As we are all rebels, enemies, and fiercely independent – I ponder on God’s love for such beings as you and me.
Good Christian men, rejoice! With heart and soul and voice! (translated by John Neale)
Give ye heed to what we say: Jesus Christ was born today!
…Now ye hear of endless bliss: Jesus Christ was born for this!
…Now ye need not fear the grave: Jesus Christ was born to save… Calls you one and calls you all to gain His everlasting hall; Christ was born to save!
- I also ponder on the angel’s announcement to the shepherds that night: For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Savior! Jesus Christ saves, brings victory over the grave, and calls all to His hall! Someone born of woman in a special place and at a specific time is such a Savior? My ponderings and wonderings should bring me to belief: agreement, acceptance and trust in the Baby of Bethlehem who died in my stead as my Savior. Faith in Him and the asking of Him to save and lead me causes a birth into His life which is rich with hope, peace, love and joy!
- Yes, the birth of Jesus should cause all good Christian men to rejoice, with heart and soul and voice! Why are good Christian men about a Merry Christmas? Why? Now we need not fear the grave and we are now destined to gain His everlasting hall – to join Him for eternity! Peace on earth now and joy forever! Oh, the wonder of it all – so much to ponder!
- God calls you one and calls you all to ponder on this: Christ was born to save! Good Christian men should insist that all men give ye heed to what we say! The infant swaddled and lying in a manger was born to save! He calls all men to receive Him that they might enter His Heaven.
Jesus came to save! What a wonder!
Oh, pause and ponder such an amazing story that has eternal ramifications for all men!
