From April 1861 to April 1865 our country was embroiled in a terrible internal war that left tens of thousands dead, tens of thousands wounded and maimed, tens of thousands with homes and lives devastated, and tens of thousands confused and angry. In fact, here we are a sesquicentennial later and still dealing with hurts and angers (the civil war monuments being just one recent reminder and the MS state flag). That civil war is not yet settled with no conclusion on the horizon (some still seeking reparations and punishment of the enslavers).
There are many declaring that today we are in another civil war that is both destroying many things around it and likely destined to also leave the country dealing with wounds for years to come. So, what is this civil war about? In a sense it is slavery again – to what are we bound? To the Constitution (rule of law) or to Washington (politicians)? To volunteer politicians or professional politicians? To history or to now? To traditional values/morals or to no values? To status quo or to a brave new world? What will this war leave in its wake?
Based on the results of the 2020 national election and the many local elections, the “change” side is winning. To see one of Nebraska’s five electoral votes go blue, to see Texas struggle to remain what it has been for decades, and to see state after state nearly split between red and blue all indicate we are at a tipping point. For the past seven decades the minority voice has been gaining volume until today it is at full throat and matching the voice of tradition.
This election was not just about two men seeking the Presidency but more so about what philosophy will govern this country going forward. Will the United States continue to be a constitutional republic or become a socialist democratic entity (no electoral college but just the raw vote controlled by those in power who can stuff the box or lose ballots)? Will the AOC “squad” take full control or be held in check? Will the bureaucracy (the deep state) get unfettered control or be kept in check? The soul of the country was – and is – on the line. What is desired for the next generations?
So if socialism becomes the way of the land, what can be expected? It means major government control of life from where and how one lives to where one works and what men can freely do. The availability and free flow of goods will be tightly controlled, not by the market and the desire for profit, but by people at desks using their powers to keep the populace in control.
Because to them the Constitution is a living document thus changing – the first amendment will be altered or eliminated. Today it reads: Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.
We already see the rejection of this Amendment happening in our country:
Freedom of speech/press: the Babylon Bee was cut off by Facebook for a spoof that Facebook did not like. After public pressure it was reinstated. This has happened a number of times over the past months and happens often in university classrooms. So much for free speech!
Freedom of assembly and worship: Grace Community Church (John MacArthur) is being threatened and sued for meeting when told not to meet due to a declared pandemic by the state. Other churches are in similar straits.
We live in interesting days – no – we live in crazy days – no – we live amidst a civil war and while we don’t know yet which side will come out victorious, watching the results of this election is an indication that radical change is very near.
Proverbs 24:21, My son, fear the Lord and the king; Do not associate with those given to change.
