Sounds

I am sitting on my deck at 8:30pm on a Wednesday.  After a hot day, it is a very pleasant evening.  I’m drinking tea and enjoying peace and some chatter with Janet.  Thank you, Lord.

What sparked this musing is the sound of children playing in a yard nearby.  I listened, then found myself prompted to grab my laptop and chat.  Those children playing have no clue about COVID or a coming presidential election or the murder of George Floyd or riots in many American cities or the big climb on the stock market today.  No, they are chattering and giggling on the jungle gym at their disposal.  A couple of hours earlier there were splashes and noises from the swimming pool next door.  What great sounds!

I take in the occasional barking of a dog and the chirping of an array of birds.  I wonder what they are talking about?  What interesting sounds!

Oh, and now a plane passes overhead – directly overhead!  I wonder if they saw me?  Surely not!  What a great invention was the airplane and what a great thing is air travel – especially to go on an evening flight to view the city and countryside.  How fun!

I note another neighbor is addressing her flowers.  She labors away in her yard thus blessing me with God’s creations and their beauty.  Thanks!

Occasionally a car goes past – I hear them.  If I were on my driveway I would likely be watching a line of cars going through the Runza restaurant drive-thru possibly getting some ice cream.  Fun!

The air conditioning unit purrs away.  What a blessing is AC.  I remember summer days visiting my Buttermore grandparents in Kansas where the bedrooms were upstairs and there was NO AC.  WOW – do I ever appreciate my AC unit doing its thing!

Oops – sirens.  “Lord, you know the need.  Please meet the people in their need and those going to render help.  May this turn out well.  We know that You allow pain, problems, and loss to cause us to think outside our box and hopefully think eternally and about You, Lord.  Amen.”

I just saw a gal walk by tethered to two dogs.  It is interesting how many people walk their dogs – or is it the other way around?  Never-the-less, to have the peace and freedom to take leisurely walks is a blessing.

Despite the many negatives, there are ample reasons to be thankful and to find joy.  I trust your evening produced both.
