Over these days of convalescing with all sporting events stopped, Congress given to infighting over capitalism v. socialism (which is the philosophical battle being waged – the worker v. business) and watching the DOW roller coaster, I have taken in many religious programs. And almost all are worse than troubling – they are angering!
How is it that God’s Word can either be ignored or cherry picked to get what is pleasing to man’s nature without God being angered? How is it that the wrath Jesus experienced on Calvary is twisted to mean that I am to be blessed with miracles of healing and pleasure? How is it that the calls to submission, sacrifice, and separation are replaced by self-empowerment and self-glorification. How is it?
I am convinced that Jesus’ anger twice seen on temple mount when He overturned tables and used a whip to drive out the merchandisers of “Christianity” is long over due for us. I am deeply grieved for our country and for many churches. Jesus was greatly angered by the spiritual leadership of His day – AND our Day!!!
We have got to be people of the Word and of the LORD! We have got to be diligent to open the Bible and study it, letting it take root in our thinking. We have got to be serious about God’s will, revealed in His Word, to both grasp it and to then live it publicly. We have got to be people of the Book and we have got to be people of faith – faith in a glorious, good, and great God!
Here is our 2020 verse again:
II Chronicles 20:20, So they rose early in the morning and went out into the Wilderness of Tekoa; and as they went out, Jehoshaphat stood and said, “Hear me, O Judah and you inhabitants of Jerusalem: Believe in the Lord your God, and you shall be established; believe His prophets, and you shall prosper.”
What is the call? Believe God and believe His Word!
Janet, sitting across the room from me, just flared up over what she has been observing these days before Easter which is the removal of Jesus from Easter and the substitution of idols and falsehoods. Why does Walmart get away with removing all items that talk of Jesus, the cross, or the resurrection? Rather, the items offered for your Easter time are rabbits and eggs. It is paganism about which I have carried-on over for years and will continue to do so, for the promotion of eggs and rabbits in lieu of Jesus and Calvary is simply putrid!
And because Christians allow it! Christians buy the paganism and raise no fuss. Christians find egg hunts and rabbits much more palatable to themselves, their children, and their unsaved family members so rather than cause “waves” they go along. After all, what 4-year-old wants to go to a “good Friday” service when they could go to an Easter egg hunt? Enough of the paganism!
Passion Week approaches and what will be our focus? It should be that Jesus be glorified through a grasping of the truths revealed in the Bible that teach us about His holiness, adoption, and will!
