Sad – the news and images out of southern CA where nine lost their lives in a helicopter crash. All nine had life stories that ended and have now passed into their next life based on how each responded to Jesus in light of their sin. A reminder that man knows not his time. Today be saved and today be ready!
Then there is the Coronavirus spreading around the world. The word is that it is much broader than announced and will get much bigger than hoped. Reportedly we are a year out on a treatment other than how we treat pneumonia now. It reminds us that, while we humans are amazing in what we can be (Mother Teresa) and do (smart phones and space stations), we are at the mercy of microbes and God. Sunday night we considered Joel 1:4 and the waves of locusts that God sent to ravage His land in judgment for their rejecting His mercy and grace. Joel’s call then and God’s call now is not to look to the CDC, the government, or even a pill, but to look to God. May this remind us that our Protector and Healer dwells on high and is lifted up.
75 years ago the horror at Auschwitz came to an end. The horror of Hell has no end.
Matthew 25:46, And these will go away into everlasting punishment, but the righteous into eternal life.
The Impeachment trial is troubling. I’m pretty sure that President Trump is not fully innocent despite his declaration of innocence and the same made by some on his side. I’m pretty certain that nearly every president before him has used money and the bully pulpit to get things done. I’m sure that many political campaigns before have sought dirt on their opponent from various sources – maybe even through other countries. While his June 25 call to the President of the Ukraine might have been “Perfect”, there is almost always more to the story.
Yet, Impeachment ought to be for crimes clearly seen as wrong by the majority of ALL political persuasions. In I Corinthians 5 Paul is talking about an immoral man he wants the church to put out that the man might be broken of his willfulness and restored. It says in 5:2, “immorality as is not even named among the Gentiles.” That means, those outside the church also saw the action as wrong. It was clear to a vast majority that an evil was happening or did happen.
To Impeach with no hard evidence and no witnesses is contrary to what we as nation have used as a marker of justice. Such could become the standard of dealing with unloved Presidents in the future, thus weakening or even damaging the Executive Branch of our beloved government.
We do not have a perfect government and we don’t have perfect politicians or government employees, so we must be able to tolerate some wrong. But bad wrong needs addressed. I’m not convinced we are in that realm here – at least yet!
