Facing 2020 in the USA

For the past half-century we have been witnessing a slow and steady drift and change coming over America.  Here are some of the changes I see:

  1. a rejection of God in public talk, especially a mention of Jesus
  2. global enterprises – world markets – putting policy in the hands of global concerns
  3. multi-culturalism – a distinct national identity diluted (language, heritage, holidays)
  4. self-rule – my way – autonomy – personal freedom is paramount
  5. a victim mindset – I am owed
  6. a rejection of historic standards such as marriage and no debt
  7. a rejection of Webster – word definitions now in flux
  8. the rule of science over Scripture
  9. entertainment and sports rule – emotions over facts, often now the marks of worship
  10. anger toward the rich and the successful (distain for corporations like GE)

Millennial markers (those 20 to 35ish) and too often also by older ones who should be wiser:

hedonism – happiness, peace, and prosperity

narcissism – me, ego, self, looks, clothes

relativism – right for moment, right for me

tolerance – just don’t hurt another

debt is a badge – debt is not bad

science/facts – faith matters little

utilitarianism – if it works, it is good

inclusivism – no walls or lines, no sin

community – the group overrules purpose and values

lies – OK if serves a greater good (I’m native American, I got a 31 on my ACT)

blame – it is you, not on me

So how do we face a new year and a new decade?  Eyes on Jesus!
Knowing and Resting in Truths:

God’s hand is on it all – He is sovereign alone, Colossians 1:17

The coming election is in His hand – Proverbs 21:1

The nations are in His hand – Psalm 22:28 (China)

The weather is in His hand – Psalm 135:7 (climate)
Just three words “Peace, Be Still” and the wind immediately stopped (Mark 4:39)

The devil is in His hand – Job 1:12

The stars are in His hand – Psalm 8:3

Safety is in His hand – Isaiah 49:2

Our days are in His hand – Ecclesiastes 5:18

“He’s got the whole world in His hands!” Hallelujah!

We, His sheep, are in His hand – Psalm 95:7

John 10:27-30, My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me.  And I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; neither shall anyone snatch them out of My hand.  My Father, who has given them to Me, is greater than all; and no one is able to snatch them out of My Father’s hand.  I and My Father are one.”

So 2020, bring what you may – We who are His are in good, good hands!  Thank you, Jesus!
