II Chronicles 20:1, And it happened after this that the people of Moab with the people of Ammon and other with them…came to battle against Jehoshaphat.
Good King Jehoshaphat was faithfully serving God for he brought the people back to God (19:4) and served the needs of all the people (19:4-5). He warned his leaders to not sin, to not be partial (justice is blind) and to take NO bribes (19:7). He also warned them to fear the Lord, be faithful, serve with a loyal heart, and know that God notes and deals (19:9-10). He was doing right yet a great enemy came against him (20:1). He was confused (19:2-12).
We may be faithfully and lovingly serving our Jesus and have cancer come at us or job loss come at us or the death of a dear one. What? This II Chronicles 20 story should give us direction and help. The short of it is that God was up to good for reading 20:25-30 we see that God filled their coffers (many tangible blessings), removed fear, and gave them peace – prosperity and peace! God was up to good then and might allow bad, pain, and loss in our lives in 2020 for our good.
What did Jehoshaphat do? Some points:
3 And Jehoshaphat feared, and set himself to seek the Lord, and proclaimed a fast through all Judah. 13 Now all Judah, with their little ones, their wives, and their children, stood before the Lord. 12 “O our God, will You not judge them? For we have no power against this great multitude that is coming against us; nor do we know what to do, but our eyes are upon You.”
14-15 Then the Spirit of the Lord came upon Jahaziel…And he said, “Listen, all you of Judah and you inhabitants of Jerusalem, and you, King Jehoshaphat! Thus says the Lord to you: ‘Do not be afraid nor dismayed because of this great multitude, for the battle is not yours, but God’s.
16-17 Tomorrow GO down against them…You will not need to fight in this battle. Position yourselves, stand still and see the salvation of the Lord, who is with you, O Judah and Jerusalem!’ Do not fear or be dismayed; tomorrow go out against them, for the Lord is with you.”
18 And Jehoshaphat bowed his head with his face to the ground, and all Judah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem bowed before the Lord, worshiping the Lord. Then the Levites of the children of the Kohathites and of the children of the Korahites stood up to praise the Lord God of Israel with voices loud and high.
20 So they rose early in the morning and went out into the Wilderness of Tekoa; and as they went out, Jehoshaphat stood and said, “Hear me, O Judah and you inhabitants of Jerusalem: Believe [have faith] in the Lord your God, and you shall be established [be upheld]; believe His prophets, and you shall prosper [successful].”
21 And when he had consulted with the people, he appointed those who should sing to the Lord, and who should praise the beauty of holiness, as they went out before the army and were saying: “Praise the Lord, For His mercy endures forever.”
22 Now when they began to sing and to praise, the Lord set ambushes…they [the invading armies] helped to destroy one another.
The 2020 TARGET from II Chronicles 20:20…
Believe in the Lord your God, and you shall be established;
Believe His prophets, and you shall prosper.
PK Translated: Have faith in a great and good God and He will give you confidence. Study His Word to know His will and then obey and God will lead and bless you.
