I love our Constitution with its Bill of Rights and Amendments. We are so blessed to live under such a great document which is unlike anything in the world today or ever. It seems abundantly clear that our framers were used and moved by God for the principles are profound (the wisdom of the Electoral College being one!).
The trouble is, too many today don’t know it, understand it, or appreciate it. Much like so many Christians with the Bible. We say we know it/the Bible – but do we really? We say we understand it – but do we really? God uses suffering – do we understand that? Do we really appreciate the Bible? It is God’s Word – GOD’S WORD! WOW! to us! It is God’s revelation for success in life. Do we appreciate it?
Back to our country’s guiding documents and a look at the first amendment. Here it is:
The First Amendment prohibits the making of any law respecting an establishment of religion, impeding the free exercise of religion, abridging the freedom of speech, infringing on the freedom of the press, interfering with the right to peaceably assemble or prohibiting the petitioning for a governmental redress of grievances.
Note how every point is so great. I don’t want the government establishing a religion for it could be Islam or spiritism or Baptist-ism. Rather the free expression of faith by her people is to be allowed. By the way, it does not say exercise of worship/freedom of worship, but the free exercise of religion. Meaning a person’s faith can be practiced – not just in a designated place on Sundays – but in other places throughout the week. It means one’s faith can be allowed to affect their talk, walk, and spending all week as long as it does not fuel violence.
And what about the freedom of speech? This “freedom” has been pressed beyond reason ever since the 60’s. Today it is being pressed even harder under the banner of Political Correctness. Today it is that anything that does not parrot the new morality is not tolerated. Anything that questions or rejects the platform of the new order is called hate speech.
The PC police can’t stand a word said against their agenda. They can’t stand the “moral imperfections” of others so they aggressively and even violently seek to silence any speech they dislike. They forbid books, Facebook posts, YouTube posts, articles, signs, protests, or other – anything not pleasing to them is subject to their wrath. Where is the “freedom of speech” they aggressively used in days past to get a foothold and now deny to those who would question their ways?
The PC people seek, and in many ways have achieved, strict control of thought, expression, and speech. For them, it is not acceptable to be politically “incorrect.” They have established a religion and at this point it appears that our government is embracing it as the religion of the land.
All this is foreign to our governing document. Oh, that courts would understand our Constitution and control this takeover of the freedoms guaranteed.
Oh, the we would understand!
