At every visitor center, trail sign, or talk there is the promotion of time – millions of years, lack of mention of God or Noah, and the exaltation of man – of what science says (as if they were there when it all happened).
As much as the tours and placards talk millions of years, they just can’t get away from talk about something catastrophic that happened and caused the layers and canyons.
A couple of times they talked about 4800 years ago or so (sounds like Noah).
They talked about this big event whereby the land mass sunk and the whole world was covered by up to 400 feet of water (per Escalante writing) then the land lifted up which is today called the Colorado Plateau.
They also talked about imagining the great wall of water caused by such an act – again sounds like Noah
Other quotes I jotted down…
“a continuing story”
“a work in progress – ever changing”
“600 million years the layers came”
“160 million years ago wind formed dunes of sand 3000’ thick”
“5-10 million years ago the land was lifted up”
“a profound change – Virgin River cut a canyon”
[on the Lake Powell boat cruise]
“the land mass sunk and an ocean covered it then came a sudden rise of the land causing a wall of water”
“large boulders on mesas moved by a flash flood”
“all was covered by water”
“well beyond the work of flood acts”
“years debating the mystery”
“it took a flood and turbulent waters”
They just can’t say God or Noah!
PK – To deny the worldwide flood of God’s judgment is to reject some of Jesus’ teachings. Consider what Jesus said in Luke 17:26-27, And as it was in the days of Noah, so it will be also in the days of the Son of Man: They ate, they drank, they married wives, they were given in marriage, until the day that Noah entered the ark, and the flood came and destroyed them all.
To reject Noah’s flood is to reject Jesus – a very serious matter! And God is not mocked (read Psalm 2)!
As we were driving along the Colorado River north of Moab, it struck me how vulnerable we are to God’s wrath in response to our rejecting and mocking Him. Just a little quake – just a little one (it is a fault line) could dump a rocky cliff into the canyon blocking it and stopping the river for possibly weeks. Think about the ramifications down stream – the drinking water for southern CA stopped, water for irrigation stopped, and the stopping of electric generation at the Glen Canyon Dam and Hoover Dam. Just imagine the chaos God could easily bring on us. God is not mocked!
So – should we continue to promote science’s guesses and deny the teachings of Jesus? I think NOT!
