God’s Calling

It was a good week – this past week – rereading the accounts of Jesus’ death, burial, and resurrection.  It was good to ponder anew what He went through, what His followers experienced, and what it all means to me/we.  It was good to spend time with fellow Christians around God’s Word showing Him our love and brokenness.  It was good to be with you on many occasions this past week.

Now, we face a new week and the activities of late Spring.  May the events of Passion Week not fade but enrich, motivate, humble, and spur conversations.  May we tackle these coming days with a renewed energy to show and tell our Jesus to a world in desperate need of His hope, joy, and peace.  May Jesus shine in us and from us!

Amidst many words, verses, and accounts that gave me pause over the past days, I was reminded at a Friday communion service that to be Redeemed does not mean Freedom – which too often we think.  Rather, to be Redeemed means to be purchased – it means to be owned.

I’m reminded that when God redeemed His people from their Egyptian captivity, He declared that they were to go three days journey into the wilderness and there worship Him (separated from the world and from non-believers) and He was redeeming them so they could serve Him.

Such is true yet today.  To be redeemed is to be called to worship Him which is to live a life that gives worth to Him – that promotes His greatness, goodness, and glory.  And, to be redeemed is to be called to serve Him – that is, to listen to Him with the intent of obeying quickly, fully, and joyfully.

May such be true of us these weeks of Spring as school winds down and summer activities heat up.  Let us worship and serve our glorious Savior!  Thank you, Jesus, for life because of Your sacrificial death!!
