So much we hear today is about “you”. “You deserve” has become a huge marketing tool to the point of being obnoxious. Then there is “you” being a “hero” for going to work or providing a roof over your kid’s head. Really?
There is the horrible theology out there propagated by preachers quoting half of Philippians 4:13, “I can do all things…” So, “you” can be and do anything? No! That is not the point of the verse which goes on to declare, “through Christ who strengthens me.” It is about Jesus – not about “you”! But, the pulpit and the world push the idea that “you” can do anything “you” put “your” mind to do. That “you” are the center of the universe and the rest of us are just privileged to live in “your” world. “You” make up “your” own truth. Nobody has the right to tell “you” what to do!
Where have we heard such talk before? In the garden! “’You’ can be like God, knowing good and evil.” WRONG!!
So, advertising, school curriculums, friends, and even churches teach “you”…
-how “you” can be enriched.
-how “you” can be fulfilled.
-how “you” can be prepared to deal with the world.
-how “you” can understand “you”.
-how “you” can be more loving and kind.
-how “you” can discover “you”.
The trouble is that other “you’s” are seeking to help “you” be “you”.
It seems that something outside of “you” would be a vastly superior source for wisdom about “you”. Something outside of “you” can show “you” how to…
-be fulfilled!
-have purpose!
-find mission!
-gain understanding!
-know value!
-grasp mercy!
-know meaning!
The outsider for “you” to understand “you” is Jesus! From His lips and His sacrifice “you” can come to grips with “you” and find the joy, peace, love, hope, and purpose that “you” need to live a meaningful life.
May He fix “you” and fill “you” to His glory!
