A History Lesson

It is man’s desire from birth to death to be in charge.

It is man’s bent to be free and able to manage his own life.

Adam and Eve were privileged to live in a wonderful state.  They had peace, provisions, authority (over animals and over property), the fulfillment of satisfying employment, wonderful family, and a sweet relationship with God.

[in the USA:  mostly true, once upon a time!  “In God we trust!”]

But lurking in their “country” was deception.  They could have it better for there were things around them from which they were restricted (the fruit of the tree).  Their personal freedoms could be greater, their possessions could be larger, and their authority and status could be more (Genesis 3:1-4).

[in the USA: there should be freedom for all sexual expressions (consequences eliminated – abortion).  I should be able to own a nice house, drive new cars, and take exotic vacations like others.  I should be able to do what I want to do – I know what is best for me. Those who restrict me from such things are evil – God is evil.  Take to the streets! ]

Adam and Eve bought into Satan’s philosophy of life.  Satan was created glorious and powerful yet a servant of God (such was Adam and Eve’s beginning). Satan rejected his status demanding greater – he wanted socialism – equality with God.  Isaiah  14:12-14

[in the USA:  health care for all, college for all, 401’s for all, houses for all (Fannie and Freddie), blessings for all (a participation trophy and no child left behind), and a life free of any financial struggle (minimum wage of $15 or more and if not given, go on strike).]

Satan was not content with the blessings of his existence (many freedoms and many blessings – free of fear, guilt, shame, anger, and selfishness).  No, Satan didn’t appreciate his place of blessings nor his privilege to serve the King of kings, Ezekiel 28:11-19.

[in the USA:  not content with paved roads often paid for by others, freedoms protected by the death of others (war), medicines which cost millions to create due to paying for all the failures, and safe parks and neighborhoods.]

No, Satan was not content and challenged God’s authority and ways and Adam and Eve agreed and joined in the protest.

[in the USA:  challenge the country’s values, constitution, and history]

And how did that work out for Satan?  You know the story.

How did that work out for Adam and Eve?  You know the story!

So what can we expect to be the end of our story as we follow Satan’s lead?
