OWH 12/31/18
I went through the obituary page noting the funeral service that was announced for each listed as passing from this life. Here is a listing of those services:
Gathering of family and friends
Mass of Christian Burial
Celebration of life will be held at a later date
Mass of Christian Burial
Service at Christ Community Church
All services at Holy Name Catholic
Funeral service at Mortuary Chapel
Mass of Christian Burial
Funeral Mass
Service at Mortuary Chapel
Services at Mortuary Chapel
Mass of Christian Burial
Funeral at a Lutheran Church
Funeral at Mortuary Chapel
Funeral at Mortuary Chapel
Service at Episcopal Church
Mass of Christian Burial
Mass of Christian Burial
Celebration of Life at Mortuary Chapel
Mass of Christian Burial
Private family service
Observations:
1. Funerals at Mortuaries are up – about half here
2. About half are Masses – the size of Catholicism in Omaha
3. Only three are in church buildings
4. Three are not having a “funeral service”
Thoughts:
1. We die! We ALL die! We’d best pack our bag. Got your ticket?
2. How many were truly saved? Salvation is a faith in Jesus that saves fully at the moment a person confesses Jesus as Savior and has no regard for works prior to salvation (infant baptism or confirmation) or works for salvation (baptism) or after salvation (have to give and do and be in order to stay saved). Rather, salvation is a trust in the payment made by Jesus on the cross that shows in a life-changing love for Jesus.
3. How many were engaged in their church and in love with their church? This list seems to reveal a reduction in the importance and role of church outside of the Catholics.
