Micah Musing #4

Micah 7:1, “Woe is me!”

Often thought by many a person during their lifetime and over the centuries around the world.  And what is the antidote?  God! Not just any god!  Thoughts:

“Woe is me” is certainly true when looking horizontally – when looking at men and our world.

However, “Woe is me!” is not fully true because there is a personal and active God in our world – Micah 7:7,Therefore I will look to the Lord; I will wait for the God of my salvation; My God will hear me.

This God:

   …is sovereign, caring and engaged.

…can be trusted to do as He says.  Just look at Jesus – what He said He did!  He rose from the dead after three days as He had declared!  Mark 8:31

…is aware of each person and listens to their cries.  Our hairs are counted, Luke 12:7.

…is personal so one can have a person relationship with Him.  “My”, Ps. 23:1

…is salvation.  God can and does do it!  “Lazarus, come forth!” John 11:43-44.

Consider Micah 7:8-10.  Believers can and do fall, but God never leaves and God promises a raising for those who are truly His based on the truth of verse 9 and to those who mock, reject, and persecute will come a sure judgment.  Micah 7:9, I will bear the indignation of the Lord, because I have sinned against Him, Until He pleads my case and executes justice for me. He will bring me forth to the light; I will see His righteousness.

Micah in 7:11-13 promises that despite the coming sure defeat of his land, people and city; they will be reconstituted and their enemies dealt with.  As Micah had noted in 7:8,  falls do happen to God’s people and God’s institutions (Jews and Jerusalem) but God is also about resurrections.  Hallelujah!

Micah 7:14-17 notes that the Jews were to be scattered and hiding but God would draw them back into blessings using the example of sheep scattered in forests being restored to the rich pastures of Bashan and Gilead.  God reminded His people, and us, that as the Jews were caught in slavery in Egypt for 400 years with no escape, God came.  God powerfully drew those captives to Himself and their enemies found their military incapable, silenced, and humbled in the dust – a fear of God overcame them.  Such is coming in a future day – restoration to blessing and defeat of enemies.

Micah 7:17b and 18a are great!  “They shall be afraid of the LORD our God and shall fear because of You. Who is a God like you!”  AMEN!!!  Yes, WHO IS A GOD LIKE YOU!

Micah 7:18-20 again shows what a God is ours!  He pardons our iniquities, does not hold anger, delights in mercy, is compassionate and breaks the power of sin in our lives.  WOW!

And in the end – sins will be ALL ended!  The world will be full of truth and mercy just as was promised to the fathers.  God gives and keeps His Word.

What a God!  Adore, exalt, worship, honor and glorify Him over and over day after day!

Yes!  What a God!!
