The Battle for Truth

I woke in the middle of the night a couple of nights ago (3:44 AM it was) deeply troubled by what was happening in our nation’s capital (the Kavanaugh hearings) realizing it is symptomatic of what is going on in our country:  the Battle for Truth!

Pilate declared the problem that festers in all of mankind when he said, “What is truth?” (John 18:38)

Yes, what is truth?  It is the battle waged in our country and in D.C.

What is humanness (or is a human just an animal)?

What is a male or what is a female – who decides?

What is marriage?

What is life (at what point in the womb?)?

What is family?

What is mental health?

What is a pastor?

What is drunkenness?

What is sin?  sleeping together?  cohabitating?  not inhaling?

What is a lie?

What is…

A challenge to truth and a rejection of truth was at the heart of Eve’s thinking in the garden.  Adam had told her God’s truth and she knew God, Who is truth, for she and Adam walked with Him daily.  Then she learned from Satan that there was more truth to know and became dissatisfied.  So she ate of the forbidden tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil as did Adam and forever confused the truth and polluted mankind with the idea that truth can be found outside of God.  Therefore, the question of every person who comes to the age of grappling with their right hand and their left hand (Jonah 4:11) is, “What is truth?”

For decades this country found truth in God’s Word and God’s nature (born a male is a male), but in recent days has embraced the absolute that there are NO absolutes.  Therefore the Creator God and His word are out, for they are absolutes.  Also, Webster is out, for there can be no absolute definition for a word.  And it used to be that with witnesses and evidence, truth was determined, but not so today.  Post it on social media and it is truth.

“What is truth?”  God save us from ourselves as we self-destruct!
